More than 7 years in the planning, construction on Mirvac Waterfront development in Newstead has begun.

Comprising 6 precincts – Pier, Park, Lake, Shore, Sky and Waterloo, the exciting development will fast become a premier location in Brisbane.

The work began in March 2009 on Pier, Waterfront’s first and most prestigious stage of residential penthouses and apartments.

Uni-span Australia is proud to be associated with Waterfront, through the award of the scaffold contract to Pier.

The contract, spanning 52 weeks, comprises the supply, installation and eventually the dismantling of all perimeter scaffolds as well as falsework support, stair access and egress, loading bays, a gantry, handrails and height safety, and stairwell scaffolds. Supply is expected to peak at about 1000 tons.

Uni-span’s continued commitment to innovation ensures new products are developed constantly to improve safety and productivity on site. An example at Waterfront is Uni-span’s new aluminium stair cases whereby a stringer is placed on each side of the bay and stair treads are dropped in to form the staircase. No component weighs more than 6kgs and the access provided for is the same as a traditional stretcher stair, which weighs in at 35kgs.

According to Steve O’Brien, lead scaffolder at Waterfront, “The stretcher stair is bulky and clumsy and always requires at least two men to install. Uni-span’s new staircase arrangement means one man can comfortably and safely install the staircase. Its gets even better the higher you go because of its weight advantage and ease to carry.” This lightweight product ensures manual positioning on site is faster and its ability to be broken down into components also provides for a better transport utilization.

Uni-span’s containment system, uni-mesh, is once again proving to be the solution for perimeter protection. This proven and widely accepted system allows for both “chain and shade” to be installed simultaneously, improving on production without compromising safety.
