Superhire takes up the challenge for Brisbane City Hall refurbishments

How do you safely access the 25m high domed ceiling of a 36m diameter, 80 year old auditorium which has a timber sub-floor structure?

This was the problem faced by the team refurbishing Brisbane City Hall.

Brisbane City Council has committed to preserve this irreplaceable part of Brisbane's architectural & cultural heritage. The work includes reconstructing the ceiling to the main auditorium, and removing the 120 year old pipe organ for refurbishment and protection during the ceiling works.

Construction access to the auditorium was a problem and there was no luxury of large access doors on this job. The only way scaffold could be brought into the auditorium was by existing patron access.

The product needed to be lightweight and strong, while taking into account the existing timber sub-floor.
Superhire (a Uni-Span Group Company) successfully proposed a solution using Ali-Scaff, their light-weight aluminium scaffolding. It provided the strength required, without the weight associated with steel scaffold.

In preparation, Superhire employed modern 3D CAD modelling techniques to optimise the design. Potential problems were identified and resolved during the design phase, eliminating any 'surprises' during construction.

Superhire was confident in their design expertise, gained from over 30 years of providing innovative scaffold solutions, but it was left to the principal contractor Kane Constructions to evaluate our proposal against other options.

The scope of works involved over 20,000 cubic meters of scaffold, which was erected in 2 weeks. Handover to refurbishment teams was on time and to expectations.

It is expected that the scaffold will remain in place for approximately 6 months.

This project is testament to the skills and expertise of Superhire's team of dedicated staff, all experts in their respective fields.

We are proud to be involved in the preservation of this important Brisbane icon.
